Lazlo's Corner

On July 4, 1776, the 13 American colonies, which were at war with Great Britain, declared themselves to be independent states and no longer under British rule.

On July 4th, 2022 we watch the 50 states become more fractured, as 26 states are in the process of, or have already, banned abortion, telling people with female reproductive organs that they no longer control their bodies.

We have SCOTUS decisions that do not represent the majority of Americans, nor common sense.

The Environmental Protection Agency is now limited in their ability to curb climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions.

At a time when shootings are happening on an hourly basis, and congress was able to pass a bi-partisan gun law, that may not do much, but does something, only to have SCOTUS weaken other gun laws.

You don't need to be explicitly read your Miranda Rights when arrested (though importantly, you do still have those rights, you just need to know that for yourself now)

And school prayer is allowed, thus removing Thomas Jefferson's statement of a "separation of church and state" that had previously been cited in SCOTUS decisions. I just hope every school is open to all religions, because my Church Of Rock & Roll has a sacred prayer we sing before every important event: (I am sure there are other appropriate songs, but XTC's "Dear God" always comes to mind first to me)

Why do I mention all these things? Because it is hard to celebrate Independence Day when we are watching are country get turned into something it shouldn't be, something the majority of Americans do not want it to be. Something will certainly lead to more people dying, and in the case of the EPA, possibly our entire planet dying.

So nope, no veggie dogs or meatless burgers on the BBQ for me. No drinking and celebrating, and no, I will not be watching fireworks.

Today is just another Monday, so I'll be on the air at 7pm ET with Presents New NJ Music, and I'll be fighting the good fight all day & all year, to try to elect politicians that will make this country better, and they sure as hell don't come from the party that believes January 6th was just another day.

To quote the movie Network, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!"

We all should be mad as hell!

We all should be working to elect people that will fix SCOTUS, codify Roe v. Wade and EPA's ability to curb greenhouse gas.

And if it bothers you I am talking politics, and wish I would just shut up and play music... well, I wish I could shut up and just play music too, but being community radio means being a part of the community and bettering the community. Some times the shit is metaphorically blowing up is the shit going on in our country.
