Newsletter 9-4-12

Hey Everyone,

The dates are set!

This year’s BANDING TOGETHER – A BENEFIT WEBATHON FOR THE SPONDYLITIS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA will air on BlowUpRadio.com October 19th thru 21st.

Over 60 bands are already signed up to perform live during the webathon as we try to raise money to a cause near and dear to me (my wife suffers from ankylosing spondylitis).

If you are a musician and want to be involved, e-mail me. There is still time to be involved, and we would be happy to have you!

We are going to start mentioning some of the line-up right here in this newsletter next week.

We will also talk about this year’s incentive to donate. It’s a good one!

Lazlo’s Corner

Earlier this year I was introduced to AMERICAN PINUP via their split album with Lost in Society, and was immediately taken in by their pop punk meets indie rock sound. Their new EP, “THE END OF THE WORLD EP”, contains four infectious rock songs that makes me want to get up and have some fun, but you’ll find something so much deeper if you stop and listen to the lyrics (or read along, as they have them up on Bandcamp), and see that lyrically their songs are much heavier then their riffs have you believe. My favorite song on the album, “A NEW AMERICA”, seems particularly pertinent now as we are deep into another election season.

ELBOW put out my third favorite album of last year with, “build a rocket boys”, and have been making great music for 22 years. So it is no surprise to me that their new B-sides collection, “DEAD IN THE BOOT”, features 14 great tracks from the last 12 years, and not one “filler” or “throw away” song. Elbow is one of those great bands to sit and listen to with big headphones on, and whether you are new to their music or a long time fan, this is a must have collection.

With Labor Day being yesterday, summer may be over...and looking out the window at the muggy rain, it doesn’t feel much like summer, but close your eyes and put on the new debut from MARK CROZER & THE RELS and their pop-infused indie rock will make you feel as warm and happy as a summer day by the beach. Oh yeah, it’s damn good, but I’ve come to expect that from bands on Planting Seeds Records (which also put out music from Mark’s old band, International Jetsetters). For added indie rock cred, Mark Crozer has been part of Jesus & Mary Chain since they reformed in 2007.
