Supporting New Jersey's Local Music Scene Since 2000

Album of the Month
The Milwaukees - "American Anthem Vol. 1"

With, "American Anthems vol. 1", The Milwaukees have crafted an album that to me is really a perfect interweaving of two different albums. The first two songs on the CD are fist pumping, air guitar playing, sing along, rock songs. then the album takes a sharp turn, without being jarring to the listener, into a more Roots Rock/Americana/Alt-Country ballad for the next two tracks. As strong as their rock songs are, and they really are fun, the real emotional connection for the album comes through in these powerful, soulful ballads. The album continues to perfectly ping pong between rock songs and Americana ballads, leaving me wanting more when the nearly 41 minute run time of the CD ended.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

My apologies that there was no newsletter last week. It's the time of year when my allergies tend to get really bad, and last week was particularly brutal. SO bad in fact, that anyone who wants to make money in the stock market, would do well to buy stock in any company that makes tissues :)

But seriously, I'm starting to feel better, and thus the newsletter is back.

I want to thank everyone who came out to the big 2 day Spondylitis Association of America benefit on Sept. 28th & 29th, and a special thanks to all the performers who donated their time and played incredible sets! We raised over $700, and people are still sending donations in after the fact. If you would like to donate to the Spondylitis Association of America, you can do so, directly on their site, here.

This is first of a hopefully annual benefit concert, and next year will be even bigger and better.

There is a new BlowUpRadio.com Podcast up, which in addition to featuring music from Joshua Van Ness, Dirt Road 14, Lloyd United, Dipsomaniacs, John Raido, Kate Hart, High Speed Chase, Lisa M. Bello, and Robin Renee, also contains my undying praise of John Peel, and some weird stories that came to mind while I was taping the podcast. Enjoy!

Click here to download the new podcast

This week is a very special week on Lazlo's Den. Thursday I'll be celebrating John Peel on the show, rememebring the late great BBC radio DJ. Also on the show this week I'm planning to have interviews with Warm In the Wake, Foreign Born (who you may have seen on the series premiere of Chuck a few weeks ago), and the Klaxons (who recently won the Mercury prize). Keep an eye on LazlosDen.com for specific air dates.

Some new CD reviews have gone up on BlowUpRadio.com & LazlosDen.com of new CDs from VHS Or Beta, Paul Sanchez, and the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

Peace,
Lazlo

Friday two great local garage rock bands grace the coolest garage rock club in NJ, when The Gripweeds and the Anderson Council rock Asbury Lanes. Go for the great rock and roll, stay for the bowling and snack bar too.

After all the excitement the last two weekends with BlowUpRadio.com's Spondylitis benefit and last weekend's two-day Carlapalooza to benefit MS, this is a nice weekend to chill out and savor the fall weather. And what better place to relax than the intimate acoustic confines of the Goldhawk, where Hey Tiger will be performing on Thursday night?
