Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

This week is the big CMJ Music Marathon in NYC, but who cares, it's also time for our monthly FREE Folk You! show at The Goldhawk.

BlowUpRadio.com &
presents

Folk You!
@ The Goldhawk
936 Park Ave (at 10th st.)
Hoboken, NJ

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 1ST
8pm

Featuring
Chris Avello(The Hot Cops)
The Hot Cops are a three piece pop-rock band from Wayne, NJ that formed in March of 2005 when Christoper (guitar, vocals) and James (bass) decided to make good on playing music together, something they'd talked about for six years without ever actually getting around to doing. Jeffrey (drums), who had previously played guitar with Chris in the high school band Doublethink, volunteered his skin pounding services to round out the trio.

Combining their love for the very best of mid-90's pop-punk with their favorite pop rock songwriters from the late 70s and beyond, the Hot Cops have been described as "a Plow rip-off band", "Elvis Costello on speed", "a 1,4,5 version of Piebald", "the next Exploding Hearts if you ever get your shit together", "sort of a little bit like Pavement in a strange way", and "a hell of a lot like The Thermals" depending on who's listening and how drunk they are. Songs about girls, drinking, or declarations of life change, usually inspired by girls and drinking - are blasted out at breakneck speeds with Jeffrey's powerful cymbal crashes, Jimmy's bouncy basslines, and Christopher's signature vocal delivery and catchy chording.
Matt Colligan
Singer/Songwriter: Raised in Clifton, New Jersey Matthew Colligan established his musical roots at the age of 16 when he picked up his first guitar. What originally began as a hobby, quickly transformed into a creative obsession. At such a crucial time of life, a series of events and the actual experience of becoming who we are was much too powerful to remain unspoken. His unique vocals and passionately poetic songwriting has touched the hearts and souls of many audiences, as well as industry representatives. Matt is currently recording tracks (with Visionary Music Group) for his debut release and will be performing frequently around the tri-state area. Currently, Matthew works for Tom Gioia and Andy Snitzer at Visonary Music Group in River Edge, NJ as an Intern, and is studying to be an engineer/producer. Tom Gioia and Andy Snitzer have worked on artists such as Bon Jovi, Beck, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, the Rolling Stones, and have numerous Indie music and major television/film credits. Matthew Colligans 3 track debut is scheduled to be released in mid-September of 2006.
The Crayons
THE CRAYONS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A BAND OF ONE. KC IS A SINGER / SONGWRITER ORIGINALLY FROM NEW JERSEY. SOMETIMES DOING SOLO ACOUSTIC SHOWS AND RECORDINGS, OTHER TIMES YOU MIGHT RECOGNIZE MEMBERS OF VARIOUS MUSIC SCENES ASSUMING THEIR COLORS AND BECOMING CRAYONS. HUGE CONTRIBUTERS TO THE CRAYONS CAMP ARE RON AND BART OF THE CHURCHILLS. THESE INDIE ROCK SUPERSTARS PRODUCED, ENGINEERED, AND MIXED "WHAT COLOR ARE YOU?" THE FULL LENGTH CD RELEASED UNDER THE NYC INDIE LABEL CROPDUSTER RECORDS, WHICH FEATURES OTHER ARTISTS SUCH AS PATTI ROTHBERG, BOB PERRY, AND THE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS SHOW. THE CRAYONS ALSO HAVE A SELF PRODUCED ACOUSTIC EP ENTITLED "236 ASTOR". AFTER TOURING THE U.S. A FEW TIMES AND DOING COUNTLESS SHOWS UP AND DOWN THE EAST COAST KC WENT UNDERGROUND NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN. UNTIL NOW! BASED IN ALBANY, NEW YORK, KC HAS BEEN DOING SOME SOLO SHOWS, AND WAS ALSO SPOTTED PERFORMING WITH THE CHURCHILLS. BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR MORE APPEARANCES AND SOME NEW RECORDINGS IN THE COMING MONTHS. HERE'S WHAT AMPLIFIER MAGAZINE SAYS: THE CRAYONS TRACE THE TONES AND TEXTURES THAT DEFINE MODERN ROCK. A STYLE THAT'S BUOYANT YET BROODING, AND SEEMINGLY ALWAYS ON EDGE. THE SET STARTS OUT ON AN UPBEAT NOTE, GRADUALLY BECOMES DARKER AND MORE MOROSE, AND THEN LIGHTENS UP AS THE ALBUM WINDS DOWN. SONGS LIKE "ALLYSON FELL OFF THE BIKE," "CRUZ," AND "SURROUND ME" IMBUE THE BAND WITH A PRESENCE THAT LIFTS THEM ABOVE THE ORDINARY. NOW!!! ANSWER THE QUESTION: "WHAT COLOR ARE YOU?"
Hope you can come out for this evening of acoustic rock!

Peace,
Lazlo

Grover Kent - running out of Ramones

4 of the most socially inept old men (ok 2 socially inept young men and me and Jay) playing a style of music that people claim is dead. Judging from the massive turnout at shows, maybe they are right. Or maybe we're just not the ERGS <3 Check us out, you'll probably like it...
