1. MESSAGE FROM LAZLO

Sleep deprivation is good folks.....zzzzzzzz :) I'm working on just over 4 hours sleep and a lot of caffeine, and you may ask yourself why. Well, because I had to get up early this morning to work on this wonderful site and buy some new equipment to make it run more smoothly, and I was out almost until the sun came up celebrating the release of the new Artist Amplifcation compilation CD last night. That's right, the wonderful people responsible for the Blue and Red comp CD's last year, are back with 3 new comp CD's. The first of which is the Orange disc, which features such noteable NJ bands as...well, just look below at the "New Songs Added This Week" section, and you will see some of the amazing artists on this new comp CD. And for those hipsters who try to keep with the "buzz bands", the comp also features NYC's "next big thing band", the Strokes, with a previously unreleased live version of their soon to be mega-hit, "last nite". If it takes that song to intice you to get the comp CD, make sure you to listen to the 19 other amazing bands. Check out the Artist Amp website for info on this and the other 2 forthcoming Comp CD's.

As for the house party for the comp CD that Andy Gessner (the man behind Artist Amplifcation) threw (with the help of Val Emmich and Eileen Kenny), it reminded me what it is like to be part of a scene. A house full of musicians and music fans hanging out, talking about music, philosophy, even Buffy the Vampire Slayer (who knew there were other die-hard fans of the show out there?)

And the music...Many of the bands that peformed it was my first time seeing, and they were incredible! The night started with Dewey Defeated playing a set of rock songs from both their "Fire Wants Some Too EP" and their forthcoming CD, that delighted those in attendance. They even showed their versatility by exchaning insturments on several songs. Next up was Cropduster, who's CD, "Drunk Uncle", is a favorite of mine, but I had never seen them live. Now that I have, all I can say is I am sorry I never saw them before. Their electrifying set of alt-country punk rock left me wanting to hear more. More of their music we were delighted to hear later, but before that came a set by Mike Ill and Poor Old Souls, whose song "bite size pieces" actually appears on the Yellow CD (due out next month). Their music, which I can only describe as pop/rock/blues/spoken-word,rap...basically you have to see and hear this band for yourself as they interweave different styles together for a perfect pop sound. Keep listening to blowupradio.com, to hear their song "bite size pieces".

After the afore mentioned announced bands played, the "after hours" portion of the show began...it almost sounds like a party at the Playboy mansion, right down to a lot of beautiful women being there (how is it that when rock bands are playing there are always beautiful women around?). The only thing missing was the grotto ;) Anyway, the after hours portion began with a performance by the always entertaining the Crayons.

Speaking of the Crayons, let me quickly digress and mention that blowupradio.com presents the Crayons along with special guest Paul Crane of Bastards of Melody, at O'Donnell's Pub (233 Harrison Ave. in Harrison) on Wednesday, November 21st (Thanksgiving eve). I will be hosting and blowupradio.com will be playing between sets. Come down for a night of fun rock and to wish the Crayons well as they head South on their "Peanut Butter and Jelly Tour".

The Crayons then invited Val Emmich up to the mic, who did a few covers and some songs off of his amazing solo debut, "the 15 minute relationshop". The night ended with an extended performance by Tom and Mark of Cropduster, who didn't seem to mind what they were playing (including a Steely Dan cover!), as long as those that remained were still having fun.

All in all, it was a great night of conversing with old and new friends and hearing great music. I hope Andy and Artist Amplifcation puts on more house parties, but for those that missed the fun, there is another CD release party happening this Friday at Hamilton St. Cafe & Stage.

Speaking of cool concerts, sometime this week I will be able to release the information about blowupradio.com's anniversary bash! Keep Saturday, December 15th available. You won't want to miss this party.
